This book belonged to my aunt as a child, which dates it to the late 1940s, I guess. The author and illustrator was Peg Maltby (1899-1984).
They are quite large paperbacks, about the size of an old scrapbook or colouring book, and most of the pages are in black and white with some full-colour pages scattered throughout. The pages are brown with age, but still holding together well.
I guess my aunt thought perhaps it was a colouring book:
(Which reminds me that I once did this too in an old picture book at my Gran's house when I was staying there. Gran was horrified, and I was mortified. I really did think it was for colouring!)
Thanks for looking and check out more vintage goodies here.
that was simply delightful :)
ReplyDeleteThose images are just amazing. I looks at kids books now and some of the art is very good, great even but its not the same. Its not 'this' good.
ReplyDeleteI love the old books
happy vtt!
Ben and Bella...how special is this book with it's amazing details of living on the beach in the 1940's or earlier. I love their beach house in the second picture with the window done in Stars and Stripes and the Lobster being chased away with the broom and rolling pin. Thanks for sharing...I'd have colored in it too.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this little book, and I'd like to HAVE a little beach bungalow JUST LIKE THAT ONE!
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable book....How wonderful it is that you have it! The colors and pictures are just precious. Have a great VTT!
ReplyDeleteThese are vintage things I truly enjoy seeing and hearing about. Great job.
ReplyDeleteThose are just adorable illustrations - back when they were so sweet. I love old books anyway but these really are great treasures!!!
ReplyDeleteThe "colored" page looks pretty good.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like those characters were living in a vegetable so they must have been "teenie weenie" size.
